Welcome to the HaTorah Ohr Preparatory
Academy web site! "HaTorah Ohr" is a Hebrew phrase that means "The Torah
is Light"; and reflects our family's approach to how we walk out our Christian
faith. We chose this name for our home school because it embodies our education philosophy for our
children - preparing them for a life of service to
Messiah Yeshua
(the living Torah who is the Light of the World); preparing them
to carry the Truth to the next generation; and enabling them to fulfill their
life purpose, which is to know God and make Him known; all based on the truths
presented in the 66 books of the Hebrew Scriptures (typically referred to as the "Old
Testament") and the Apostolic Scriptures
("New Testament"),
which are the divinely inspired, only, and complete Word of God, infallible and
absolutely authoritative in all matters of faith and life. While we use
textbooks and other teaching materials to provide valuable assistance in
providing knowledge as we learn about history, science, linguistics, and
mathematics, it is the Scriptures alone that form the basis for teaching the
truths that our children need to learn to live according to God's commands.
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what
does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to
walk humbly with your God?
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the
counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of
scoffers! But his delight is in the Torah of the LORD,
and in His Torah he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so; but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

By God's grace, we will seek to glorify God by training
and equipping our children with the skills they need
to (i) follow the commands of God in Scripture and live as He outlined in His
Torah, (ii) have a biblical world view, (iii) display Godly character, (iv) be able
to reason wisely based on the principles of
the Scriptures, (v) have a biblical response to questions and issues that they encounter and
decisions they must make, and (vi) carry the Truth to the next generation; all designed to enable them to fulfill their life
purpose of knowing God and making Him known, thereby leading effective lives for
Messiah Yeshua.

What would it be like to interview God about why there is suffering and death?
Our first student began formal pre-first grade
instruction in the fall of 2007; however, because we believe strongly in the command
given by Moses in Deuteronomy 6:6-7, all
four of our children receive instruction daily as we seek
to fulfill God's command to
keep His words in our hearts and teach them
diligently to our children, talking about them when we sit in our house, when we
walk by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise up.
It is our desire that our children grow into adults
who walk as the humble person
described in Micah 6:8 and the
blessed person described in Psalm 1:
